PAPER FIGHT BOT

Bots that talk back

Say something to a bot in voice chat and it answers out loud, in a word or two. Ten minutes to set up, from 6.0.0.

What it sounds like. You: “Hello” → the bot: “Hi”. You: “How’s it going?” → “Good”. That is the whole idea: it answers greetings and short questions, then gets back to fighting. No small talk, no speeches.

What you need

FightBot 6.0.0

Or newer. Installing it takes about four minutes.

Simple Voice Chat

The plugin on the server, and the mod in each player’s game, with a working microphone. Without it the bots still fight, they just have nothing to talk through.

A free Groq account

Groq has a free plan, which is why it is the one in this guide. Google Gemini and OpenAI work too — the setting is ai.provider.

Setting it up

Get a key from Groq

Sign in at console.groq.com, open API Keys, and click Create API Key. Call it anything — “FightBot” does.

Copy it and keep it like a password. It starts with gsk_, and anyone who has it can spend your Groq account.

Put it in the config, on your server

Open plugins/FightBot/config.yml, find the ai: part, and set these three lines:

ai:
  enabled: true
  provider: groq
  api-key: "gsk_…your key…"

Leave the rest alone, then run /fb reload.

Check it is listening

Type /fb ai. It should say AI chat (Groq): listening, and how many bots can answer. If something is missing, it says what.

Talk to a bot

Spawn one with /fb spawn and make sure it talks: /fb vc presence <bot> talks. Then turn on /fb ai watch, stand within 8 blocks, look right at it, and say “Hi”.

It answers out loud. The first time, you also get a one-off chat message saying that what you say to bots goes to Groq — every player gets that once. /fb ai watch again turns the step-by-step messages off.

The key never goes through this website. The editor at fightmc.xyz can switch AI chat on and change its settings, but it never shows the key and will not set one — that only ever goes in the file on your own server.

If it does not answer

Look at what /fb ai watch printed while you were talking.

What you seeWhat it means
Nothing at all when you talk Voice chat is not sending your voice. Check your microphone in Simple Voice Chat’s settings (press V).
heard you… but you weren’t facing a bot that can answer Look right at the bot, and stand closer than 8 blocks.
no bot near you can answer The bots near you are deafened, have no mod, or wear a CPM model. It says which.
paused: Groq wants the model’s terms accepted On console.groq.com open the Playground, pick canopylabs/orpheus-v1-english and accept its terms. FightBot tries again by itself every 2 minutes.
refused the key The key is wrong or was deleted. Make a new one, put it in ai.api-key, then /fb reload.
has nothing to say to that It only answers greetings and short questions. Try “Hi” or “How’s it going?”

A short wait before the answer is normal: each one is three quick trips to Groq — hearing you, thinking, and speaking.

What it costs, and limits

Groq’s free plan

About 100 spoken answers a day (10 a minute) with its voice model. When that runs out, bots stop answering and just fight, and FightBot tries again later. Groq has paid plans if you want more.

Your own cap

ai.max-per-hour (120) is the most answers your server gives in an hour, whatever the plan allows.

Selling longer chats

Chats have no limit by default. To limit most people and sell the rest as a rank, give fightbot.ai.limited to your default group and take it off the rank you sell. Limited players get ai.limited-replies answers each chat (2).

/lp group default permission set fightbot.ai.limited true
/lp group vip permission set fightbot.ai.limited false

The other settings

SettingDefaultWhat it does
ai.range8 How close you stand, facing the bot (2–32 blocks).
ai.words3 Longest answer, in words (1–12).
ai.replies0 Answers per chat. 0 means no limit.
ai.chat-again-minutes5 After this long, a new chat starts.
ai.voiceblank Blank is autumn. Any of Groq’s voices for its talking model.
ai.model, ai.listen-model, ai.speak-modelblank Blank uses Groq’s own. Only change these if Groq renames a model.

What is sent, and what is not

Only what a player says while standing by a bot that answers, facing it, goes to Groq. Nothing else they say is used. Every player is told this the first time they are near a bot that answers. With /fb ai watch on, or debug logging, staff can see what was said while they test.
